"ukiyo-e" は世界の共通言語
世界で通用する日本芸術文化のひとつ、浮世絵。世界に知れ渡るきっかけは、ある偶然からでした。

1856 年、エッチングの印刷工房に訪れたパリの版画家フェリクス・ブラックモン。
そこで偶然目にしたのが緩衝材として使われていた葛飾北斎の『北斎漫画』でした。

初めて見る北斎漫画に衝撃を受けたブラックモン。
その場で譲ってほしいと頼んでみるものの断られますが、その 後も熱心に入手を試み、
ついに 1 冊の北斎漫画を手に入れました。

彼の手から、エドゥアール・マネ、ヴィンセント・ファン・ゴッホなどの印象派画家たちの手に渡り、
北斎の絵は 彼らの作風に大いに影響を与えたのです。

その力は、絵画だけにとどまらず、ガラス芸術家のエミール・ガレや
著名な作曲家クロード・ドビュッシーなど芸術の様々な分野に影響を与えていきました。

近年ではアップルコンピューターの創始者であるスティーブジョブスも
浮世絵の流れを汲む新版画の熱心なコレクターとして知られており、
製品のデザインにも数多くの影響を与えていたと言われています。

初期のコンピューター マッキントッシュのデモンストレートでは橋口五葉の「髪梳ける女」が使われていました。

明治時代になると北斎の作品に限らず、数多くの浮世絵が海外に旅立って行きました。

ボストン美術館のスポルディング・コレクションに代表されるように、
欧米の著名な美術館には数多くの良質な浮世絵コレクションが所蔵されていて、
皮肉なことに海外の方が日本よりも浮世絵に身近に接する機会が多かったのです。

そのため、浮世絵は私 たち日本人が思う以上に外国の方に認知、浸透され、そのファンもとても多いといわれています。

In the early computer Macintosh demonstration,
Hashiguchi Goyo's "Woman combing hair" was used.

In the Meiji period, not only Hokusai's works
but also many other ukiyo-e prints went overseas.

As represented by the Spalding Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston,
many well-known museums in Europe and the United States possess a large
number of high-quality ukiyo-e collections, and ironically, overseas people
had more opportunities to come into contact with ukiyo-e than in Japan. It is.

For this reason, ukiyo-e is recognized and penetrated by foreigners
more than we Japanese think, and it is said that there are many fans of ukiyo-e.

Especially among executives who are familiar with fine arts,
our reprinted editions of ukiyo-e, which are reproduced in vivid colors,
have been very well received.
